They have names and faces. They are men and women. They think no one can denounce them. They think they have the right to enslave and sometimes to kill. They are our neighbors, the parents of our children’s schoolmates; they are sometimes our own family members...
They look so ordinary, sometimes so kind to us; but they are the SLAVE TRADERS of Lebanon! The ones who take the passport of their "maid", "return" her to the agency as if she was a simple hoover, oblige her to work and carry much more than they could, don't give a day-off, lock their employee up in their appartment, don't pay the salary, beat, insult, rape...
They are the ones who consider that paying 150 dollars per month for a full-time job is acceptable. We, Lebanese, when we go working to Europe or the US, are we paid less than others? Do we "belong" to anyone? Don't we have fun? Can we imagine spending two years without seeing our family or even speaking our own language?
CAN WE CONTINUE TO TOLERATE SLAVERY IN LEBANON?
On this blog, harsh facts of slavery committed in Lebanon will be denounced, and the measures taken against the slave traders made public. This unbearable practice will not end in Lebanon without naming the perpetrators.
It is time to end impunity!
